Class 4A roundup: Dumas downs Pampa remains unbeaten; Hereford holds off Canyon

Dumas continues to create a buzz among the state with performances like Friday night.

The Demons remained perfect on the season with an impressive 38-15 victory against district rival Pampa at Harvester Field.

The No. 5 Demons are now 9-0 overall, and in the drivers seat in District 3-4A Division I at 2-0.

Dumas’ defense was again its stellar self, putting together another strong performance. The Demons held a high-powered Pampa offense, led by senior quarterback Tucker Bridwell, to 194 total offensive yards.

Arguably the most interesting stat of the night, is Pampa mustered six yards rushing on 14 carries.

Linebacker Dallan Dill had a team-high seven tackles, two of which were for a loss.

Offensively, Dumas got the job done with 439 yards of offense. Running back Jacob Mares was the go-to option for the Demons. The senior rushed for 106 yards and caught one pass for 65 yards and a touchdown.

Pampa sees a six-game win streak come to an end, falling to 7-2, 1-1.

Hereford holds off Canyon

The Hereford Whitefaces found the win column for the first time in district play, holding off a solid Canyon team 28-22 on Friday night at Whiteface Stadium.

Hereford is now 5-4 overall and 1-1 in District 3-4A Division I. Canyon’s struggles continue, as the Eagles have now dropped three straight games, falling to 6-3, 0-2.

Hereford rallied from an early 10-0 deficit, taking a 14-10 lead into half.

In the second half, the Whiteface momentum continued with 14 unanswered fourth quarter points.

Xavier Gonzalez scored on a 2-yard run, as Hereford regained a 21-16 lead.

On the ensuing possession, quarterback Britt Cave delivered a 39-yard touchdown pass to Slader McCracken, extending the advantage to 28-16.

Cave went 16 of 26 for 243 yards in the victory.

Canyon’s Jack McKay caught seven passes for 128 yards.
