Great defense, and stout running game was the catalyst Friday night in a flat out dominant 38-0 blanking of struggling Lubbock Estacado at Happy State Bank Stadium.

The Eagles are off to a fast 2-0 start on the year outscoring both Burkburnett and Estacado by a combined 115-24.

The Canyon defense turned it on from the get-go, forcing big turnovers that included a 72-yard pick six by Rafe Butcher, putting the Eagles up 14-0. Canyon also scored on a muffed punt to open the game, and forced a fumble that led to another first half TD.

Estacado never found a rhythm finishing with 117 yards of total offense.

The Eagles offensive line and running back Brody Cook were punishing on the Matadors. Cook chewed up 139 of the Eagles 230 total yards on 25 carries and scored all three offensive touchdowns.

Canyon (2-0) tries to stay unbeaten at Borger (0-3) at 7 p.m. Friday. Estacado (0-3) plays host to Hereford (1-1).

Demons blank Rangers for 11th straight home win

Dumas put together a 17-point second quarter and shutdown defense to blank Perryton 30-0

on Friday night at Demons Stadium.

The No. 4-ranked Demons have now won 11 straight home games dating, while running its regular season win streak to a Texas Panhandle-best 20 straight. Both of those streaks date back to 2018.

Perryton hung in during the first 12 minutes of the game trailing only 3-0 after one.

That’s when Dumas and quarterback Spencer Williams turned it up another level. Williams led the Demons on three straight scoring drives, using his feet on touchdown runs of 14 and 6-yards. Williams then found Louis Ortega down the sideline for a 20 strike to put Dumas in command, 23-0.

Williams ended his evening going 16-of-25 for 179 yards and two TD tosses. Williams also rushed for 87 yards and another two scores.

Ortega hauled in five catches for 58 yards and a touchdown.

Linebacker Dallan Dill led Dumas with 10 tackles and a forced fumble.

Pampa pummels rival Borger

Pampa jumped all over arch-rival Borger in the first quarter on its way to a 56-15 thumping Friday night at Harvesters Stadium.

The Harvester offense was near flawless scoring on five of their first seven possessions. Quarterback Jack Studabaker put together his second straight near flawless performance. The 6-foot-3, 190 pound gunslinger completed passes to nine different receivers, going 19-of-22 (86 percent) for 185 yards with a pair of touchdowns. But it was running back Cornelius Landers that stole the show. Landers had a SportsCenter Top 10 type highlight in the first quarter when he took a toss sweep left, changed direction, then broke six tackles before breaking free for an incredible 56-yard touchdown run. Landers went on for a season-high 167 yards rushing on 11 carries with two scores. He also caught four passes for 37 yards.

Pampa (3-0) plays host to Denver City (2-1) at 7 p.m. Friday. Borger (0-3) will host Canyon (2-0).
