Canadian steam rolls Roosevelt
The No. 4-ranked Canadian Wildcats put the region on notice absolutely annihilating last year’s Region I champion, Lubbock Roosevelt, 70-8, in a Class 3A Division II bi-district game on Thursday night at Happy State Bank Stadium.
Canadian moves to 9-2 overall while Roosevelt ends the year at 4-7. The Wildcats move on to face Early (7-4) at 7 p.m. Friday on Leo Brittain Field at Lions Stadium in Vernon.
The Wildcats pounced all over the Eagles from opening play. After a big kickoff return, quarterback Camren Cavalier broke loose for a 31-yard touchdown run putting Canadian up 7-0 not even 18 seconds into the contest. From there, the rout was on as Canadian went on to score on four 1-play drives in the first half putting up a commanding 49-0 halftime lead. Roosevelt had no answer for the Wildcat offensive line or Cavalier as the junior stacked up 176 yards on only six carries with three touchdowns. When he did throw, Cavalier was equally effective going 8-of-10 for 163 yards with two more scores. Preston Miller caught a 62-yard touchdown pass, teammate Julian Dominguez had three catches for 76 yards and Kaden Crooks carried the ball only three times for 109 yards with a TD. Roosevelt’s offense didn’t move the ball against the Wildcats gaining 122 total yards on the night all on the ground with most of those yards coming late in the contest.
Class 3A Division I
Bushland smashes Kermit
Coming off a bye week to end the regular season, Bushland didn’t show any kind of rust taking it to Kermit for a 55-6 win during a Class 3A Division I bi-district game on Thursday night at Peoples Bank Stadium in Wolfforth.
The No. 6-ranked Falcons offense put on a display racking up 556 yards of total offense. Quarterback Dawson Jaco picked a part Kermit’s secondary going 13-of-24 for 282 yards with three touchdowns. Cole Purcell led the receivers hauling in two catches for 86 yards with a score, and teammate Tate Butcher added three catches for 45 yards with a TD of his own. Ivan Soto and AJ Marquez did superb work on the ground for the Bushland. Soto toted the rock 16 times for a team-high 96 yards with two touchdowns, while Marquez added 69 yards on 14 carries with a pair of TDs.
Bushland (10-1) will play Friday’s winner of Jim Ned-Pilot Point in next week’s area round.
Muleshoe rallies for crazy win against Brownfield
For the second time in six weeks the Muleshoe Mules were able to knock off Brownfield. This time around it was a much more cohesive effort as the Mules shook off a 24-point first half deficit to gain a hard fought 47-37 victory in the Class 3A Division I bi-district round at Lobos Stadium in Levelland.
Brownfield held a 24-0 advantage and looked be rolling into the second quarter. But within minutes, less than seven minutes of game time in the second quarter to be exact, Muleshoe’s offense caught absolute fire blistering the Cubs for 40 unanswered points to take a 40-24 lead into halftime. The rally started with a Nathan Marten 35-yard touchdown toss to Judas Reyes, Martens then hit Irvin Torres on a 24-yard connection, followed by a fumble recovery for a score by Davian Ragsdale. The Mules took the lead for good ona Martens 58-yard strike to Sebastian Kirven and then Jaxher Lopez took a 55-yard interception to the house for a TD. The final touchdown of the quarter came on a Daniel Sianez 55-yard run and all of a sudden Muleshoe had put up a 40-point spot overwhelming Brownfield.
The Cubs battled back cutting the deficit to 40-37 in the fourth until Kirvin scored again in the fourth that gave Muleshoe breathing room at 47-37. Martens finished the game going 13-of-25 for 215 yards with all three touchdown passes coming in that electric second quarter. Sianez had 159 yards rushing on 22 carries with a score and Torres had six catches for 74 yards with a TD.
Muleshoe (8-3) is headed to the area round for a battle with Friday’s Brock-Iowa Park winner.

Class 2A Division II
Wellington routs Boys Ranch
It was another stellar effort from the Wellington defense as the Skyrockets stifled the Boys Ranch offense on the way to a 58-6 victory in a Class 2A Division II game on Thursday night at Comanches Stadium in Stinnett.
Boys Ranch had trouble moving the ball on a very aggressive Wellington defense the entire evening totaling only 86 yards. The Wellington offense, however, picked up the pace tallying 521 total yards with 374 of those coming from a strong ground attack. Barrett Phillips toted the ball three times for 71 yards, Dakota Marshall scored a touchdown on 38 yards rushing and Nixon Folk scored a TD on 34 yards. Travon Lewis had a big second half for Wellington with 130 yards on only six carries with two scores.
Wellington (10-1) advances to face Sudan-Ropes winner in the area round. Boys Ranch, which was making its first playoff appearance since 2008, finishes a solid season at 5-6 overall.
Vega wears down Memphis
A slow start didn’t hamper Vega from putting away Memphis in the second half as the Longhorns came away with a convincing 33-12 win in a Class 2A Division II bi-district game on Thursday in Borger.
Vega (7-4) has won six in a row and is headed to the area round to square off with Seagraves (6-5) at a time and place to be determined.
Joaquin Segovia went for 145 yards on 23 carries with three touchdowns. The senior dual threat QB also threw for 150 yards and another score. Teammate Slade Fowler caught the lone touchdown reception finishing the game with two catches for 30 yards and had two interceptions on defense.
Class 2A Division I
Stratford opens playoffs in style
New division, no problem.
Stratford opened the Class 2A Division I playoffs in dominant fashion by whipping Sundown 49-8 in a bi-district matchup at Whiteface Stadium in Hereford on Thursday.
The No. 5-ranked Elks (11-0) run their win streak to 23 straight games dating back to last season and will now get a huge showdown with No. 8 Cisco (9-2) in the area round at 6 p.m. Friday at Lubbock-Cooper’s First United Park at Pirates Stadium.
Julio Valdez did his job on special teams for Stratford in the win over the Roughnecks returning a kickoff and a punt return for touchdowns. Quarterback Bryce Braden carried the ball 10 times for 128 yards with two scores and threw for 121 yards with another TD. His brother Luke Braden caught two of Bryce’s passes for 96 yards and a score in the victory.
Farwell holds off Olton
Farwell saw quite the tale to two games but in the end came away with a 41-23 victory over Olton in a Class 2A Division I bi-district game at Littlefield on Thursday.
The Steers held a 21-2 advantage into third quarter only to see the Mustangs (7-4) take advantage of turnovers to battle back thanks to 22 unanswered points taking a stunning 23-21 lead. But without flinching Farwell answered late in the third to take over good on an Alec Atkinson 69-yard touchdown pass to Joe Crume putting the Steers back on top 28-23. In the fourth quarter, Farwell took complete control on two more scoring completions from Atkinson to Crume to seal the victory.
Farwell had to overcome four turnovers in the game, but the Steers defense did force seven Olton miscues. Atkinson ended the game 11-of-19 for 193 yards with three touchdown passes. Crume had three catches, all for TDs, finishing with 93 yards. Running back Corey Stancell tacked on 208 yards rushing off of 27 carries with a pair of scores.
Farwell (9-2) will now take on Sonora (9-2) in an area round clash at 7 p.m. Friday in Big Spring.
