Bushland absolutely was on fire in its District 2-3A Division I opener blowing out Muleshoe 63-0 at Falcons Stadium on Friday night.
The Falcons have now won three straight games improving to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in district. The Mules fall to 2-4, 0-1.
Falcons receiver Kash Bradley had himself a night to remember tallying five touchdowns in the win. Bradley caught four passes for 79 yards and two scores, had a 40-yard rushing touchdown, threw a 22-yard TD pass and returned a pick-six 65 yards for another score.
Bushland quarterback Coleman Junell was on point going 11-of-13 for 169 yards with three touchdown passes. He also added a rushing TD.
District 2-3A Division I note
River Road saw its two-game win streak come to an end in disappointing fashion in a 22-9 loss at Littlefield on Friday.
River Road falls to 3-4, 0-1. Littlefield is now 2-4, 1-0.

Canadian trounces H.P.
Canadian made it 39 straight district wins dating back to 2012 after a throttling of Highland Park 81-6 on the road Friday.
The Wildcats move to 2-0 in District 3-3A Division II action, and 5-1 overall. Highland Park drops to 1-6, 1-2.
Canadian came out guns blazing up 61-6 by halftime.
Quarterback Joshua Culwell was 10-of-12 for 175 yards and four touchdowns. Gary Anderson caught two of those TD passes from Culwell, finishing with three catches for 64 yards. Anderson was far from done doing his work as he returned two interceptions for scores on defense.

Friona knocks off Tulia
The Friona Chieftains kept themselves in great position for a playoff spot downing Tulia at home 49-16 on Friday night at Chieftains Stadium.
Friona was able to get out 13-3 lead on the feet of junior running back Jacob Bautista. Bautista scored the games first touchdown on a 45-yard run. After Tulia answered with a field goal, Bautista was loose again on the following possession scooting 66-yards to give the Chieftains a 13-3 cushion.
Bautista led a very dominant run game carrying the ball seven times for 135 yards and those two scores. He even added a 70-yard interception return in the second quarter.
Tulia’s Hayden Montgomery snagged seven catches for 139 yards and a TD.
Friona is tied with Canadian at 2-0 in the District 3-3A Division II race, and 5-1 overall. Tulia is now 4-3, 1-2.

Childress hammers Dimmitt
Childress handily defeated Dimmitt in the battle of Bobcats 51-14 in Dimmitt during a district clash Friday.
Childress improves to 2-1 in District 3-3A Division II and 6-1 overall. Dimmitt’s tough season continues at 0-7, 0-3.
Childress was able to put the game away thanks to a 31-point second quarter highlighted by a pair of touchdown scampers from freshman running back Dareon Mathis of 49 and 31 yards.
Mathis is putting his name in the Newcomer of the Year conversation each and every week and Friday wasn’t any different. The speedy back carried the ball a total of 12 times for 135 yards to go with his scores.
Quarterback Collin Bishop added 255 yards passing with five touchdown passes. Lamont Nickelberry was the go-to target snagging six balls for 117 yards with three touchdowns of his own.

Vega cruises past Gruver in district debut
The Vega Longhorns got off to a great start to their district season with a 49-6 route of Gruver on Friday night at Greyhounds Stadium.
Running back Riley Tiemann, who had been seeing limited minutes in the past weeks due to injury, came out in full force against the Greyhounds. The senior started his night by breaking free on the first play of the second Vega possession for an 80-yard touchdown run. Tiemann finished his night with 168 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries. Vega’s dominant run game is complimented by dual-threat quarterback Ryan Grawunder. Friday Grawunder went 7-of-10 for 122 yards adding three touchdowns for the Vega offense.
Vega’s defense forced three interceptions and was also able to grab two fumbles by the Greyhounds
Vega is at 5-2 now on the year and 1-0 in District 3-2A Division II. Gruver falls to 1-6, 0-1.
Sunray bested by Ballinger
Sunray was in a tough situation earlier in the week when Booker had to cancel the two teams District 3-2A Division II opener with COVID-19 concerns.
The Kiowas forfeit gave the Bobcats a 2-0 win putting Sunray at 4-2, 1-0. However, coach Wes Boatman and his team did find a nondistrict game to fill Friday’s void facing Ballinger at Lubbock Cooper.
Unfortunately the game didn’t go Sunray couldn’t stay with the Bearcats in a 46-12 loss.
Sunray kept things close trailing 14-6 at the end halftime. But the Ballinger rushing game proved too much for Sunray to handle. Ballinger finished the night with 187 yards on the ground and four scores.
Despite a great Bearcat defense, Sunray’s Carlos Castellanos managed to compile 137 yards on 16 carries for two touchdowns.
Sunray fell to 4-3, 1-0.

Wellington starts district with a win
Wellington stayed unbeaten on the year going into Shamrock and walking out with a 44-6 win district victory.
It wasn’t as easy as the score may seem. The Fighting Irish led early, and only trailed 14-6 at the break.
The second half was a different story with Wellington outscoring the Irish 30-0.
Skyrockets running back Marc Ramirez found running room and his offense starting rolling. Ramirez got loose going for 234 yards touchdowns and three touchdowns on an impressive 33 carries. Wellington’s defense was equally impressive holding the Iirsh to only 80 yards on the night while collecting two turnovers.
Wellington is undefeated at 6-0 overall and 1-0 in District 4-2A Division II. Shamrock is 4-3, 0-1.

Clarendon survives upset-minded Memphis
The Clarendon Broncos were able to score 14 unanswered points to rally past a valiant effort from Memphis 14-6 on Friday night at Cyclones Stadium.
The Broncos were held scoreless in the first half, trailing 6-0. The second half Clarendon fought its way back wearing Memphis down with its ground game. Running back Jordan Herndon was able to punch two touchdowns in for the Broncos including the go ahead score to start the fourth quarter. Sylvester Ballard led Clarendon in rushing with 85 yards on nine carries.
The Broncos move to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in district. Memphis is now 3-4, 0-1.

Bovina sneaks a win from Sudan
Bovina head coach Coby Emery and his Mustangs started district in fine fashion with a 25-21 home win against Sudan on Friday.
The Mustangs (2-4 overall, 1-0 in District 2-2A Division II) snap a four-game losing skid in the process. The Bovina defense bent but didn’t break on Friday as they allowed 327 total yards on the night, but they were also able to come away with key defensive scores thanks to Dairan De LaRosa, who recovered two fumbles for touchdowns. De LaRosa’s name was all over this one as he added a 20-yard run in the third which proved as the game-winner. Quarterback Cole Emery is healthy and making a difference. The senior ran for 90 yards while rushing and passing for a score.
In the other District 2-2A Division II contest Ropes beat New Home, 22-20.
