The Canyon Lady Eagles started the year winning track and field meets and ended the year winning by far the most important one of them all.

Like most of the events all season, Canyon dominated by stacking up 80 points which was 32 points better than second place Paris’ 48. Led by head coach Ray Baca, the Canyon Lady Eagles dynasty continues winning their second consecutive UIL Class 4A state championship and their third since 2019 and the program’s unprecedented eighth state title overall.

Just like last year, Abree Winfrey and Hannah Stewart led the way. Stuart opened Thursday by making history setting the new Class 4A state record in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:30.12. That’s 11 seconds better than the previous mark, as she also beat second place finisher Zerah Martinez of Sinton (10:59.18) by nearly 30 seconds. In the evening running session, Stuart was back at it again earning her second gold medal and 10 more key points for Canyon by getting gold in the 1600-meter race thanks to a 4:54.28.

Winfrey was equally impressive leaving the track for a third straight year with a handful of hardware. The University of Kansas signee left her signature at Mike A. Myers Stadium by winning the 800-meter run (2:15.02), then took home a bronze in the 300-meter hurdles before helping her mile relay squad of Thalia Solis, Addison Bristow, Brooklyn Kinsey, back to the gold medal stand blazing to a season best 3:52.06.

Bristow also earned a silver in the 800-meter run finishing right behind Winfrey with a 2:15.09. Senior Kashlee Dickinson medaled for a third straight year getting a silver in the pole vault by clearing an eye-opening 13-feet-6 inches.
