Bushland rolls by River Road; Hereford wins No. 40; Tascosa and Canyon are playoff bound

The No. 5-ranked Bushland Lady Falcons kept on rolling blowing out River Road with a three-set sweep, 25-9, 25-8, 25-10, at home Tuesday night.

The Lady Falcons are heating up with the University Interscholastic League playoffs looming improving to 27-4 overall, and kept a strong grip on the District 1-3A lead at 4-0.

Bushland also pushes its Texas Panhandle-best district win to 75 straight games dating back to 2011.

Lady Falcons head coach Jason Culpepper is closing in on a special milestone. The veteran coach, who is in his 21st season with previous stints at Dalhart and Randall, won his 695 career match Tuesday. Culpepper (695-166 overall) is only five matches away from his astounding 700th career victory.

Kaelie Neie had a game-high eight kills against River Road. Senior Jaycee Adams made 15 digs, and Logan Culpepper along with Millie Maupin combined for 25 assists.

Tuesday’s highlights

Hereford became the first Texas Panhandle team to 40 wins after downing Pampa, 25-10, 25-8, 25-20, at home Tuesday.

The No. 2-ranked Lady Whitefaces clinched a share of the District 4-4A championship in the process moving to 40-2 overall and a perfect 8-0 in district play.

Standout middle blocker Taytum Stow led the way with 11 kills with six blocks.

Dumas won its 30th game of the year sweeping Perryton on the road, 25-10, 25-14, 25-7. It’s the first 30-win season for Demonettes fourth-year head coach Brittani James.

Hallie Coon had a big night for Dumas with 15 assists, seven digs and six aces.

Dumas is now 30-11 overall and 6-2 in District 4-4A.

Both Tascosa and Canyon are playoff bound after getting victories in their respective districts.

The Lady Rebels defeated Caprock 25-7, 25-13, 25-14, improving to 4-4 in District 3-5A and 23-16 overall.

Canyon went on the road and swept Borger, 25-21, 25-15, 25–18, to earn a Class 4A postseason spot. The Lady Eagles (16-23) are now 5-3 in District 4-4A.

Sanford-Fritch won a huge match at West Texas High to stay in the District 4-2A hunt in a five-set thriller, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12.

The Lady Eagles (16-11) gain ground at 5-1 in district, while the Lady Comanches (14-14) fall to 6-1 in league play.

Bella Price was stellar for Fritch knocking down 23 kills to go with 14 blocks for a double-double.
