Bulls defend home ice in sweep of Brahmas

The Amarillo Bulls made it a successful homestand against North American Hockey League South Division rival Lone Star on Friday and Saturday at the Amarillo Cal Farley Coliseum Civic Center Complex.

The Bulls came away with a weekend sweep of division leading Lone Star, handing the Brahmas their first two losses of the season.

Amarillo picked up the first win Friday night by doubling up the Brahmas, 6-3.

The Bulls kept that momentum going into Saturday’s game a come-from-behind, 2-1, victory thanks to a late third period goal by Nick Trela.

The weekend sweep puts energized Amarillo at 6-3-0-1 (13 points) on the year.

Lone Star falls to 8-2 (16 points).

Bulls forward Matt Allen had another big night on Friday as he put in two more goals bringing his total to eight on the season.

Trela’s eventual game-winner in Saturday’s game was one of two goals for the Amarillo captain over the weekend.

Max Gutjahr was stellar in net for the Bulls in Saturday’s win, stopping 19 of 20 shots. Gutjahr is now 4-1 on the season.

Amarillo hits the road to battle Lone Star again at 7:30 p.m., this time NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills on Friday and Saturday.
