WT golf wins Ryan Palmer Invitational

The West Texas A&M men’s golf team claimed their fourth tournament win in program history and the first since the 2004-05 season on Tuesday afternoon as they finished off the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational in style with a 279 (-5) in the final round at Amarillo Country Club. Eemeli Jarvinen (205, 8-under par) led the way finishing second overall followed by Daniel Unger who tied for eighth. WT takes part in the MSU Invitational at Wichita Falls CC on Monday and Tuesday.

Campbell sets single-round record

For the fourth consecutive year, WT claimed the individual title as Alyssa Campbell lifted the Lady Buff golf team into a strong second-place finish at the WT Fall Invitational at Tascosa Golf Club.

The Lady Buffs posted a two-day total 588 (296-292). Campbell set a new single-round scoring record Monday, firing a 65 (7-under par) in the opening round as she earned Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week honors. The Lady Buffs return to the course on Oct. 18-19 as they head to Lake Worth, Fla., to play in the Palm Beach Intercollegiate.

Wittlake leads Buffs

Led by Tascosa graduate Briggs Wittlake’s third-place finish, West Texas A&M finished third at the William Graham Invitational hosted by Ranger College on Friday afternoon. Wittlake was the top finisher for the Buffs for the first time this season as the former All-American covered the 8-kilometer course in 27:10.7 to record the sixth Top 10 finish of his career. The Buffs and Lady Buffs return to action on Tuesday as they take part in the Blue & Gold Classic in San Angelo.

Lady Buff volleyball stays hot

The Lady Buffs ran their win streak to six straight this past week as they picked up a pair of LSC road wins at St. Mary’s and St. Edward’s. Friday night saw WT overcome a 2-0 deficit in San Antonio to win a five-set thriller over the Rattlers followed by a four-set win over St. Ed’s on Saturday afternoon. Hereford graduate Chandler Vogel led the way in the back row with 47 combines digs to run her career total to 2,370 to move just 53 digs shy of WT’s all-time career record. The Lady Buffs host Oklahoma Christian and Arkansas-Fort Smith on Friday and Saturday at The Box.

WT women’s soccer rolls

The Lady Buffs continued their offensive showcase this past week as they outscored their Lubbock Christian and UT Tyler by a 9-4 count to move to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the LSC.

Hannah Kelley-Lusk continued to dominate on the pitch as the senior scored five goals on the week to go along with an assist for 11 total points. The Lady Buffs head to San Angelo to take on rival Angelo State on Wednesday night before hosting Texas Woman’s on Saturday afternoon in Canyon.

WT men’s soccer falls in LSC opener

The #6 Buffs couldn’t find an offensive rhythm on Saturday night in Lubbock as they were shutout 3-0 by Lubbock Christian. The Buffs fall to 7-2 overall and 0-1 in LSC play. WT returns to Canyon as they look to snap a two-match losing skid against UT Tyler with kickoff set for 7 p.m. Wednesday at The Pitch in Canyon.
