Bi-district volleyball roundup: Randall and AHS cruise; 4-4A makes statement

Randall and Amarillo High are moving on to the area round of the Class 5A playoffs after dominating sweeps on Tuesday night.

The Lady Raiders disposed of Lubbock Coronado at home with ease, 25-12, 25-16, 25-12, in their opening bi-district match.

Randall improves to 27-14 overall, and will now face either El Paso El Dorado or El Paso Jefferson at a place and time to be determined.

Sophomore Jordyn Gove crushed Coronado (14-25) ending the contest with a double-double, landing 11 kills to go with 18 digs, and two aces. Teammate Maretta Ramirez dished out 21 assists.

The District 3-5A champion Amarillo High Lady Sandies went on the road and downed Lubbock Monterey, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21.

AHS, which has not lost a bi-district match in over 35 years, is now an impressive 33-11 overall, and will play either El Paso Hanks or El Paso Chapin in the area round.

Outside hitter Brielle Worley dominated the court with a game-high 19 kills, eight digs, and four aces.

District 4-4A makes statement

Hereford, Dumas, Canyon and Pampa showed how strong District 4-4A is by sweeping District 3-4A out of the playoffs during the Class 4A bi-district round Monday.

To show how dominant the district was not one of the four teams from the Texas Panhandle dropped a set on a way to victory.

Hereford (44-2) hammered Sweetwater, 25-13, 25-16, 25-7. Dumas (33-12) downed Levelland, 25-7, 25-20, 25-13, Canyon (18-22) crushed Big Spring 25-21, 25-18, 25-18, and Pampa (23-16) pummeled district champion, Snyder, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19.

Lady Harvester junior Mikalie Floyd knocked down 22 kills in the victory against Snyder to reach 1,000 kills for her stellar career.
