Amarillo’s Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) chapter has recently hit an all-time low in a recent head count. The chapter of football officials not only cover Amarillo schools but a majority of the Texas Panhandle.

Amarillo’s own are in extreme need of referees for the upcoming football season.

Although officiating is often represented in a negative fashion, the Amarillo chapter are who keep the game of football active in even the Panhandle’s smallest of communities. In order to keep football alive in rural areas, the Amarillo Chapter calls upon Panhandle residents for aide.

According to the chapter’s website, a typical “rookie” official can make anywhere from $60 to $110 per varsity game and $55 per sub-varsity game as well as the mileage.

An official does not have to live in Amarillo to be an active referee for the chapter–there are options for those living in other Panhandle communities for weekly meetings by attending via Skype.

Officials can pick certain areas to officiate games, make extra income, and of course stay involved in the game of football.

For more information to become a member of the Amarillo TASO chapter email chapter president Kelly Jones at backjudge101@gmail.com or visit their website www.amarefs.org.
