There was plenty on the line with district championships and playoff spots up in the air going into Tuesday’s final night of the regular season. Here’s how it all played out across the Texas Panhandle.
District 3-5A
Amarillo High captured the outright District 3-5A championship by downing Plainview 61-30. Tascosa will be the No. 2-seed. Palo Duro captured the No. 3-seed after holding off Caprock 46-43, while Plainview will be the four-seed.
District 4-4A
Canyon wrapped up a perfect district schedule by downing Hereford 65-27 for a 14-0 record. Randall will be the second seed. The surprise came when Pampa downed Dumas 42-39 on Tuesday to leapfrog Hereford for the third spot. The Lady Whitefaces are the No. 4-seed.
District 1-3A
Bushland is the outright district champion thanks to a 10-0 record. But by beating Canadian 47-43, and Spearman getting a win over Tulia 49-32, the Lady Cats and Lynxettes are tied for the second spot. The two teams flipped Wednesday morning. Spearman is the No. 2-seed and Canadian will be the three seed. Dalhart is the No. 4-seed.
District 2-3A
Idalou won the league crown with a 70-30 win over Abernathy to go 9-1 in district. Childress is the second-place team, Shallowater will be third and Lubbock Roosevelt gets the fourth and final spot.
District 3-3A
Littlefield finished a perfect 12-0 to win the district, however, the rest of the league is a little wild. Muleshoe and Brownfield both finished at 7-5. The two teams flipped on Tuesday night. The Lady Mules are the second seed, while the Lady Cubs will be the three seed. As for the fourth spot, that Lamesa and Denver City both finished at 6-6, and will have a play-in game at 6 p.m., Thursday in Brownfield.
District 1-2A
Gruver won the league crown hands down by throttling Sanford-Fritch 83-19 to go 10-0. Stratford then took down Sunray 70-31 to force a seeding game with both squads finishing 7-3. The Lady Bobcats and Lady Elks will play for the No. 2-seed at 7 p.m., Friday in Dalhart. Sanford-Fritch and West Texas High will have a play-in game for the fourth and final spot at 5:45 p.m. on Friday at West Texas High.
District 2-2A
Wellington defeated Clarendon 46-39 for the second time in district to win the outright league championship. The Lady Broncos are the No. 2-seed followed by Quanah as the three seed and Wheeler in the four spot.
District 3-2A
As expected, the Panhandle Ettes closed out district undefeated with a lopsided 81-11 win over Bovina. Farwell secured the second seed by exploding past Vega 86-30. The Lady Longhorns will be third place, and despite the loss, Bovina is in as the four-seed thanks to Highland Park upsetting Boys Ranch 47-41.
District 1-1A
The scenario is simple in this district. McLean is the champion and top seed, Miami is the two, Follett is third and Fort Elliott is the fourth and final seed.
District 2-1A
The Claude Lady Stangs are the outright district champions thanks to a 42-26 win over Silverton on Tuesday. Valley nabs the second spot with a 69-41 victory against Groom. The Lady Owls are the No. 3-seed and White Deer takes the fourth spot.
District 3-1A
This district is a complete mess. Texline beat Hartley 32-30 on Tuesday leaving Texline, Hartley and Wildorado all tied for the district lead at 6-2. The three co-district champions will have a tournament to decide the top three spots. Texline will play Wildorado at 6 p.m., Thursday in Hartley. The winner of that game will then play Hartley on Saturday for the top spot at a time and place to be determined. The loser of Thursday’s game will be the No. 3-seed. Pringle-Morse is the four-seed.
District 4-1A
This district played out without a lot of drama. Nazareth is the outright champion at 10-0. Happy is the No. 2-seed, Kress is in the third spot and Springlake-Earth takes the fourth and final spot.
