District 3-5A is a mess
Amarillo High clinched finished District 3-5A at 16-0, and will be the top-seed. Lubbock Monterey went 14-2 in district and will be the two-seed. That was the easy part. Here’s where things get crazy.
Lubbock Cooper beat Palo Duro on the road Tuesday night, while Plainview thumped Lubbock Coronado 53-30. That causes a three-way tie for the final two playoff spots out of 3-5A with all three teams finishing at 9-7.
After a coin flip Tuesday night, Plainview drew a bye, so Palo Duro will play Cooper again at 6 p.m. Thursday in Dimmitt. The winner of that game will play Plainview on Friday night in Dimmitt.
If Plainview wins they are the No. 3-seed. If they lose, they’ll play the loser from Thursday. I hope this makes sense?
Bushland claims outright title
The Bushland Lady Falcons laid claim to a fifth straight district championship Tuesday night. Bushland (20-9 overall) took down rival River Road 85-50 to take the outright District 1-3A title with a 13-1 mark. Taryn Schultz scored a game-high 26 points in the win.
Monday’s top performers
Tascosa’s Jada Miller poured in 33 as the Lady Rebels blistered Odessa Permian on Senior Night 105-48. It was the first time all season for Tascosa to reach the century mark.
Dumas post Sheda Madit put up a game-winning shot off the block with less than a second remaining that gave the Demonettes a thrilling 34-33 buzzer beater win against Pampa.
Lara Mason of Vega chipped in 18 points as the Lady Longhorns took the season sweep of Farwell 58-46 on the road Tuesday. Mason’s effort helped No. 2-ranked Vega finish the regular season at 32-0 overall and 8-0 in District 3-2A.
Panhandle’s Bailey Walterscheid scored a game-best 22 points as the Ettes handed Wheeler a convincing loss.
