Overtime anyone??

It was a wild night of district openers across the Texas Panhandle.

Two games saw double overtime endings, while two more came down to overtime finishes.

None may have been better than Dalhart’s 60-58 double OT thriller at rival Dumas in the District 3-4A opener. Both teams battled for six quarters with the Golden Wolves coming out on top. Dalhart standout Zach Barsalou was the X-factor, pouring in 38 points in the victory.

Highland Park and Memphis was the other game to go double overtime. The Hornets caught fire, erasing an 18-point halftime deficit. Highland Park went on for an 80-78 win. Hunter Nicholas went off for 38 points during the dramatics.

Not to be out done, Canyon’s Joe Shaw tossed up a game-winning fadeaway jumper in the waining seconds to lift Canyon past Levelland 55-53 in a District 3-4A opener.

Last but not least, Tulia pulled off a thrilling District 1-3A overtime win, besting Spearman, 55-52. It was a much needed win for the Hornets, who sit in the middle of the pack of the district race.

Picking up where he left off

Gruver’s Jalin Conyers maybe playing football at Oklahoma next fall, but he doesn’t fans to forget he is one of the top athletes on the hardwood as well. Conyers is getting his basketball legs under him, and it showed Friday as he earned a triple-double against his former West Texas High team. Conyers scored 18 points to go with 14 rebounds and 10 assists during the Greyhounds 79-21 victory.

Friday’s top performers

Canyon’s Stephen Ferguson led the Eagles with 20 points during their OT victory against Levelland.

Hereford’s Blake Walker poured in 27 points that helped the Whitefaces rout Lamesa 79-53.

Pampa’s Chase Landers incredible season continued with 30 points in a win against rival Borger.

Austin Calhoun of Vega racked up 25 points for the Longhorns as they throttled Bovina 79-29 in a District 3-2 opener.
