Bushland impresses

The Bushland Falcons went on the road Friday night and earned a very impressive 52-31 win at Canadian to stay unbeaten in District 1-3A.

Leading 23-20 at the half, Bushland turned it up a level in the final two quarters of play by outscoring a talented Wildcat team 29-11 to finish the game.

Nathan Welch paved the way for the Falcons scoring a game-high 15 points. Joshua Culwell and Reagan Cochran each had 12 for Canadian. Bushland remains all alone in first place at 6-0 in district, and 14-4 overall. The Falcons also clinched a spot in the Class 3A playoffs with the victory. The Wildcats fall to 4-5, 3-3.

How bout Holy Cross

They’ve flown under the radar most of the season, but the Holy Cross Catholic Academy Mustangs are having a historic season. Thanks to a 77-31 win Friday at home against Wichita Falls Notre Dame, HCCA stayed undefeated in TAPPS District 1-1A at 4-0 and are 10-3 overall. Led by head coach Matt Rosas, the Mustangs are ranked No. 2 in the state in TAPPS Class 1A, and were ranked No. 1 for a time earlier this year for the first time in school history. In the victory against WFND Friday, Zeke Aranda had a career performance scoring 37 points.

Friday’s top performers

Bovina’s Jose Mata went for a career-high 35 points to help the Mustangs past Vega 61-56.

Kainan Thomas and Aaron Ovalle of Randall combined for 62 points as the Raiders pulled away from Palo Duro for an 87-71 District 3-5A win. Thomas had a game-best 32, followed by Ovalle’s 30.

Pampa’s Casen Floyd poured in 22 points leading the Harvesters to a huge 51-41 road win at Perryton.
