AHS rolls

The No. 5-ranked Amarillo High Sandies showed their strength cruising to a 66-41 win at Canyon on Tuesday. The Sandies improve to 10-2 overall with the victory, Canyon falls to 6-7.

Junior center Cade Hornecker paved the way for AHS with 14 points, followed by 14 from guard Chris Dees.

The Eagles were down 18 at half, however did cut the deficit to 10 by the end of the third. Senior Joe Shaw had a team-high 12 points to lead the Eagles.

Look out for Wildorado

Veteran state champion Andy Copley isn’t the only one who can coach in the family. Wildorado second-year head coach, and the oldest son of Andy, Connor Copley, is proving he has that magic touch. Connor’s Mustangs scored a thrilling, 56-53, overtime win against Hartley on Tuesday in a District 3-1A battle. With the victory Wildorado remains perfect in district at 4-0, and are an impressive 14-2 overall. Freshman standout Swayde Cleavinger poured in 25 points for the Mustangs in the win.

Tuesday’s top performers

Shamrock’s Sean Wright was on fire with 29 points during the Irish’s 71-53 victory against Hedley.

Texline’s William Luther scored 27 in Texline’s 91-32 win against Adrian.

Blake Walker of Hereford put up a game-high 23 as the Whitefaces took down Dalhart, 67-30.
