The regular season starts this week, as teams across the Amarillo-area gear up for an exciting 2022 campaign. Here’s 15 volleyball players to watch that will make a major impact in the Texas Panhandle.

Logan Culpepper, Bushland, Setter, 5-7, Sr.

The daughter of Bushland head coach Jason Culpepper was a major catalyst helping the Lady Falcons to a second straight UIL Class 3A state championship last season. Culpepper, the District 1-3A Co-Setter of the Year and three-year starter, dished out 828 assists, adding 206 digs with 99 kills and 67 aces a year ago.

Jo Moffitt, Amarillo High, Setter, 5-8, Sr.

The daughter of Amarillo High head coach, Mike Moffitt, broke the Lady Sandies single-season school-record for assists last season with an incredible 1,441. The first-team District 3-5A selection tacked on 235 digs with 70 aces and 87 kills for an AHS team that made the Region I-5A Tournament.

Jordyn Gove, Randall, 5-11, Outside hitter, Jr.

Gove soaked up every bit of her first season on varsity helping lead Randall to the Region I-5A Tournament finals. Gove was named the District 3-5A Newcomer of the Year in 2021 knocking down 420 kills, hitting the floor for 597 digs, adding 40 aces and 25 blocks.

Camryn Blair, Hereford, OH, 5-9, Sr.

Blair returns as a leader for the Lady Whitefaces. The senior, and District 3-4A first-team selection last season, averaged nine kills per match with four blocks a match in 2021.

Mikalie Floyd, Pampa, 5-10, Outside hitter, Sr.

The four-year starter and captain of the Lady Harvesters returns as one of the more prominent players in the Texas Panhandle. Floyd, the District 3-4A Offensive Player of the Year last season, had 599 kills, 370 digs, and 91 aces in 2021.

Halie Coon, Dumas, Setter, 5-7, Sr.

The Demonette senior earned District 3-4A Co-setter of the Year honors last season during a breakout junior campaign that saw her dish out 616 assists with 73 aces. Coon is expected to have an even bigger role this season.

Olivia Hurnes, Caprock, Middle blocker, 5-10 Sr.

Four-year letterman has been a staple and leader for the Lady Longhorns. During the 2021 season, Hurnes was all over the floor racking up 231 kills, 56 blocks, and 47 digs.

Nickilah Whatley, Hereford, 5-9, MB, Sr.

Whatley came on strong last year as a key cog for a Lady Whiteface team that advanced to the Region I-4A Tournament. The extremely athletic senior, and first-team All-District selection, averaged eight kills and seven blocks per match in 2021.

Sydney Winfrey, Canyon, 5-10, Middle blocker, Soph.

Winfrey is living up to her name that stands highly respected set by her three older sisters before her. The sophomore had an incredible freshman season earning District 3-4A Newcomer of the Year with over 100 kills.

Madyson Ebberly, Bushland, 5-10, Middle blocker, Sr.

Ebberly’s role significantly changes even more than it did a year ago. The senior and TGCA All-Star this summer will be heavily relied on for head coach Jason Culpepper on both sides of the net. Last season, the first-team All-District selection hammered down 280 kills with a hitting percentage of .364.

Kaylie Ledbetter, Amarillo High, Libero, Sr.

Ledbetter is a key cog to the Lady Sandies success. The second-team All-District libero will see a significant role change within the team as a senior after a 2021 season that saw Ledbetter have 78 digs in just 10 district games.

Adah Henderson, Childress, Middle blocker, 6-1, Sr.

Henderson was a part of a Lady Bobcats that continued their success for a second straight year with another Class 3A playoff performance. The team leader and middle blocker was a force racking up 317 kills, 68 blocks with 35 aces.

Mercedes Harton, Highland Park, 5-10, Setter, Sr.

Harton can do just about anything asked of her. The 2021 season proved it as so. The District 1-3A Co-Setter of the Year had a fantastic junior season dishing out 828 assists to go with 99 kills, 206 digs, and 42 blocks.

Mercedes Hartwig, Miami, Middle blocker, 6-0, Jr.

Hartwig has been a valuable asset since the beginning of her freshman season two years ago for head coach Keri Dukes. The reigning Class 1A All-State selection is entering her third year in a starting leadership role after helping the Lady Warriors to the Region I-1A Tournament last year with 320 kills, 208 digs and 69 blocks.

Brooklyn Kinsey, Canyon, 5-9, Middle blocker, So.

Kinsey played a significant role on a very young Lady Eagles team in 2021. Expect to see the sophomore’s role change to an even bigger one this fall. Last season, Kinsey did damage at the net with over 100 kills to earn her first-team District 3-4A honors.
